Abstract
Gnathology is usually seen as a technical, instrumentally dominated sub-discipline of dentistry that is primarily concerned with CMD/TMD. However, if one considers gnathology in the sense of its fathers as a fundamental element of dentistry that can support all other dental disciplines. This presentation will discuss 12 arguments on how gnathological approaches are able to contribute to sustainability in dentistry. Aspects of organization/procedures, conceptual approaches and indirect effects by avoiding consequences will be presented by the authors. In the spirit of this conference, the lecture aims to support a wide range of strategies of many organizations such as the International Dental Federation (FDI) recognizing and using gnathological thinking also in the context – green and sustainable dentistry.
