Gaetano Isola is an Associate Professor of Periodontology at the School of Dentistry, University of Catania, Italy.

Qualified in Dentistry at the University of Messina, Italy. PhD in “Physiopathology of the Stomatognathic Apparatus and Dental Materials” at the University of Turin, Turin, Italy. Visiting Research fellow at the “Laboratory of Calcified Tissues and Biomaterials” at the Department of Periodontology Université de Montréal, Canada. Advanced Course in Periodontology at the University of Ferrara. Three-year certificate in Oral Surgery at the University of Naples “Federico II”. Visiting Professor at the Department of Periodontology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, USA and the University of Granada, Spain. Visiting Researcher at the Department of Implantology at the University of Bern, Switzerland and the Department of Periodontology of the “Eastman Dental Institute”, London.

Dr. Isola has been a recipient of many research awards, among others, the “Global Peer Review Awards” of the Web of Science Group, the “Travel Grant Award 2020” and the “Outstanding Reviewer Award 2019” from MDPI Publishing. Selected for the “IADR Robert Frank Junior Award” CED-IADR/NOF Oral Health Research Association and the “USERN 2020 award”, Universal Scientific Education and Research Network (USERN).

Board of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR) and Italian Society of Periodontology (SIdP) member. Active member of the Italian Society of Oral Surgery (SIdCO) and the International Piezoelectric Surgery Academy (IPA). Member of the “International IADR Constitution Committee” of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR) (2016-2022).

Advisor of several research projects and speaker at national and international conferences of Periodontology. Author of over 200 national and international peer-reviewed publications. His main research interests focus on periodontitis’s clinical, biological and pharmacological aspects, the relationship between oral health and systemic diseases, and the overall impact of periodontal treatment on both oral and systemic health.
